In Places to Visit

La Fortuna, situated near the Arenal Volcano, has anything and everything from hiking and horseback riding, to hanging bridge tours and caves. But there is one unique attraction that you will find hard not to love – all of its fresh water activities including the Arenal Lake, rivers, waterfall, rapids, etc.

The Arenal Volcano is located about 3 hours from San Jose. Usually when a weekend trip is planned, we would recommend visitors to lodge at a hotel in La Fortuna as it is a small, quiet town with all the necessary comforts. A huge variety of water sports are available near the area including canoeing, fishing and kite surfing. However there are certain musts that you need to go to if you want to get a true taste of the fun-filled-Arenal Volcano.

La Fortuna Waterfall is the first place you should visit. This is an amazing 230 ft cascade that drops into a natural pool which is always so cool and fresh. You will need to do some hiking in order to get to the actual waterfall (about 5km) – but oh it is so worth it! You can also do some rappelling down a wall right near to the cascade.

It’s the perfect way to cool down from all that walking and have some great aquatic fun!

Situated right at the base of the Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Lake offers great options for kayaking or canoeing. This is a pretty awesome trip as you get to enjoy a full frontal view of the jaw-dropping volcano, as well as of the forested and farmed hillsides right next to it. The kayak tours usually last about 2-3 hours which gives you more than enough time to wander and explore. Just remember to bring enough sunscreen as it may seem cloudy at times but you still can get awfully sunburnt.

Near the Arenal Volcano there are 3 rivers where you can do White Water Rafting (the Toro, the Balsa, and the Peñas Blancas). Each river has a different level of difficulty and velocity so you can choose the one the best suits you. The Peñas Blancas river is the slowest and calmest of them all. Rafting trips on this river are pleasant and ideal for enjoying the views. The Balsa and Toro rivers are much more faced paced (the Toro being the fastest). These last ones are classified as class II and III rapids.

If you a fan of water sports, adventure and an endless amount of wild fun, then you absolutely need to try out some of the amazing activities that Arenal Volcano has to offer! Remember that in Solid Car Rental find many sedans and all-terrain for any adventure. We know the meaning of service.
