Are you a diver looking for a new exciting adventure? Are you a fan of thrilling and adrenaline filled trips? If so, you need to bucket list this: Diving with sharks at the gorgeous Bat Islands!

Located about 30 miles from Coco beach in Guanacaste, the Bat Islands are truly a perfect paradise for experienced divers! It will take about a 4-hour drive to get to Coco Beach from San Jose. Once you get there, you need to take a boat ride for about an hour before getting to this awesome spot. We recommend you plan your trip from May to September, as you will find the best weather conditions during these months.

Everything about diving at Bat Islands is tricky. Currents are very unpredictable and the marine life is quite intimidatingly dangerous. In addition, boats are not able to anchor here, so divers need to be able to make a quick descent without a line. For this reason we recommend that only truly experienced divers take on this marvelous challenge.

There are so many exciting things about the Islands; from its colorful underwater environment to its small (and big) inhabitants. The Bat Islands are full of interesting caves and bridges which are great for divers to venture out and explore. While diving, you may be able to see corals, manta rays, eels, ladyfish, spade fish, marlins, etc.

But the number one attraction at Bat Islands is most definitely swimming right next to massive bull-sharks! Also know as ‘the big scare’ this diving spot is only for the very brave hearted. Here, you will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the most majestic yet dangerous creatures in the entire ocean! If you are lucky, you may see everything from bull sharks, to tiger and white tip sharks. Sharks can grow to have a length of two to three meters in length. Just imagine yourself swimming next to such an impressive creature! – Literally a once in a lifetime deal!

Take a chance and live the experience of your life! Visit the incredible Bat Islands for a unique diving experience!
