In Places to Visit

If you are one of those adventurers who love hiking, nature and spending breathtaking nights looking at the night sky – then you should probably read this!

Waterfalls are one of Costa Rica’s most prominent features. The beautiful cascade which is usually surrounded with the most lush and vibrant rainforest. But you haven’t really experienced a waterfall until you actually spend a night sleeping under its secret cave!

The Green Diamond are a set of 10 gorgeous waterfalls hidden deep in the Guanacaste jungle. Getting to the waterfalls will definitely require a 4×4 vehicle. Note, you do have to be quite fit to visit these, as the hike up to the main waterfall is about 2.5 hours long and will require you to go through some very slippery clay, loose gravel and steep stairs.

Given that the Diamond waterfalls are within private property, you do need to arrange for a guided tour (mostly for safety reasons). Once you have arranged this, you can plan your visit to this magical place!

It’s impossible to see all 10 waterfalls in one day, however guides will usually take you to the main ones. You will see everything from small cascades and pools where you can swim and relax, to huge cascades where you can actually jump from the top (if you are up for the challenge!).
Throughout the hike you can enjoy the primary rainforest and if you are lucky you will get to see much of its fauna.

Once you get to the main Diamond waterfall, it’s easy to see why we call this: a magical place! Between two 85-foot waterfalls, you will see a couple of gigantic boulders which form a cave-like shape. Inside the cave, you will find tables, a complete kitchen, bathrooms and even platforms where you can spend the night! – Isn’t that just the coolest thing you have ever seen! Imagine spending the night, falling asleep to the sound of the cascade and the beautiful night sky!

If you are planning to spend the night, make sure you et some rest as there is plenty to do the next day! Wake up early and hike all the way to the top of the waterfall where you can look over the edge of the 600 feet long cascade. Here, the scenic views are perfect for taking lots of pictures.

So, what are you waiting for? Only a short 4-5 hour drive from San Jose, the Diamond waterfall is the most heavenly place to spend the night!

The Guanacaste Province always surprise us! Many adventure can be found in the Guanacaste and surroundings. We remind you that we have offices in Liberia Downtown and the Liberia International Airport.
