In Places to Visit

For surfers, there is nothing better than walking up at a peaceful, tranquil beach; and catching those perfect summer waves! But not every beach offers a relaxing environment mixed with consistent great waves. But if there is one that definitely makes that cuts, its Marbella beach!

Located in the province of Guanacaste, in the Nicoya Peninsula, is a small off-the-grid beach known as Marbella. Although not a popular destination, Marbella is actually one of the very few remaining hidden jewels of the Pacific Coast.

Unlike other more popular surfing spots, Marbella has an incredible sense of peace and tranquility. Its harmony combined with its breathtaking natural wonders are really something out of the ordinary!

Marbella is quite the surfer’s paradise! The beach is crammed between Junquillal and Ostional which are other two gorgeous beaches, creating two incredible surfing spots: Frijolar and Coco. Although you can visit these any time of the year, the best time is between March and August, as the swells are strong and very consistent.

Frijolar Beach is great for beginner and intermediate surfers, as it is known for its easy paddle outs and hollow waves with barreled sections. Due to its shifting sandbars, the waves at Frijolar are better ridden on a right position. Here, breaks are best ridden at mid tide.

The second surfing spot, Coco beach is mostly recommended for experienced surfers as its breaks and swells tend to be much bigger. This beach is particularly known for having very hollow A-Frame barreling and excellent beach breaks.

Surfers are not the only ones who can enjoy the wonders of Marbella. The beach itself offers its visitors a sunny, delicious environment which is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

If you are planning to stay at this soothing beach, there are lots of other activities you can take part in it. The most popular are diving, horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking.

Take time for some delicious rest and relaxation while enjoying some of the most perfect waves at the peaceful Marbella beach!
