In Places to Visit

There is no better feeling in the world than waking up early in the morning have some quick breakfast and coffee and heading out to the beach. Feeling the warm sunrays on your skin and the delicious sand between your toes while you look out into the ocean and assess the waves for your morning workout. And we are not talking about surfing, oh no! We are talking about something equally as challenging but so much more relaxing: Paddle boarding!

Also known as Stand Up Paddle or SUP, this sport has become increasingly popular in Costa Rica. There are two ways to paddle board: you can either paddleboard peacefully on a river or calm ocean; or (if you are more experienced and like the adventure) you can ride empty waves and cruise with the ocean’s currents. Whatever option you choose to learn will definitely give you a unique way to experience Costa Rica’s beaches.

If you do decide to venture out and try this new sport, rest assure that you will not regret it! You will start your Paddleboard lessons at the beach where an instructor will teach you the basics such as going into the water, paddling, balance, dealing with currents and even how to ride small waves! Once you’ve got it all down, you are ready to hit the water! Paddle boarding is one of the coolest activities you can do, as you can really make of it what you want, whether its rush and adventure or relaxing and chilling.

Although you can probably do SUP in most beaches, its recommended you chose those which have few-to-no waves and no currents. This is mostly because the more waves and currents, the harder it is to actually paddle into the ocean where you can lay on the board without being tipped over by waves.

Costa Rica has so many great spots for paddle boarding: oceans, lakes, hot sunny or cool windy weather. It depends on which amazing view you would rather gaze at! Some of our top recommendations are: Papagayo Peninsula, Nosara beach, Tamarindo beach and even the gorgeous Arenal volcano!

So, don’t just stay home and watch TV next weekend. Take your car, drive to the nearest SUP spot and spend a day full of sun, fun and paddle boarding! For more information on rental cars contact the professionals at Solid Car Rental today.
