In Costa Rica, Places to Visit

Everyone knows Costa Rica for being one of the coolest places to visit and vacation because of its popular tourist destinations such as the rainforests, beaches and volcano’s. Some people may come to get closer to the incredible lush wildlife, hike an active volcano or maybe just to chill under the delicious sun on a gorgeous beach. But most definitely, one of the most incredible attractions that the country has to offer is its vibrant powerful oceans which are just perfect for surfers to explore!

While there are dozens of beaches in Costa Rica that are worth while visiting, there are very few that we can assure are the absolute best when it comes to surfing spots! – One of those is the incredible Witch Rock!

Witch Rock is located is the northern part of the country in Guanacaste. This awesome surfing spot is located within Playa Naranjo in the Santa Rosa National Park. So you can imagine – one of the best surfing sports located within a rich and beautiful national park!

Playa Naranjo is known for having some of the most delicious beaches with golden sand, strong breaks and large rocky formations off the coastline. Witch Rock is perfect for any type of surfer due to its strong groundswells as it makes it a perfect spot for surfers who like both smaller inside waves or larger outside sets.

Another reason why surfers love this spot is because of its ‘A-frame wave’ which breaks both on the left and right hand side.

Although you can surf at Witch Rock during most of the year, its best to visit during dry season (December through March) especially during the high tides. Its recommended not to surf here during low tides as it has the tendency to wall up and close out.

Because Witch Rock is located within a National Park, there are no accommodations available. If you are adventurous enough, you may stay the night at the campground that is located about 20km from the entrance.

If you decide to drive there, take into account that you might have to do some heavy walking to get to the actual surfing spot. The entrance to the park is fairly decent, but usually a 4×4 car is recommended, as the roads are not paved. Witch Rock can also be accessed by boat.

The Guanacaste Province always surprise us! Many adventure can be found in this place and surroundings. We remind you that Solid Car Rental have offices in Liberia Downtown and the Liberia International Airport.
