Its no secret that Costa Rica is a paradisiac destination! It has a total of 26 national parks which are made up of protected rainforests, tropical dry forests, marine areas, wetlands and cloud forests. Believe it or not, 25% of its landmass is designated as a protected area or biological reserve! – Its unbelievable!

So, to honor such an amazing beauty, we will give you a run through of country’s top 5 national parks! The parks are in no specific order, as they are all as gorgeous as the next!

Coco’s Island

Being the most remote part of Costa Rica, Coco’s Island is really a unique place! It is known for its thick lush vegetation, huge number or rivers, and magical waterfalls. Believe it or not, Coco’s Island is actually the largest uninhabited island in the world! And although it does not receive many visitors throughout the year, those lucky one’s sure fall in love with this beautiful place! The National park protects about 60 endemic and endangered species both on land as well as in the sea.

Corcovado

One of the top eco-tourism destinations and most important sanctuaries of biological diversity in the world; Corcovado is simply something you just cant miss! Located in Peninsula de Osa, this is the largest conservation park in Costa Rica. It is home to over 7000 species many of which are endangered today. Hiking is also big here, as Corcovado has some lovely hiking trails which will take you about 2-3 days to complete.

Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio National Park is the perfect combination of a lush jungle, white sand beaches, and the refreshing Pacific Ocean! Although it is one of the smallest parks in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio is visited through out the year by many locals and tourists due to its proximity and beauty. Just imagine swimming in clear blue water and being shaded by the palm trees in the forest – absolutely awesome! Wildlife can be easily spotted on your way through the park including iguanas, squired monkeys, white-faced monkeys and sloths.

Tortuguero

Although Tortuguero can only be reached by boat or plane, the trip is absolutely worth it! The National Park was originally created to help protect sea turtles from hunting and poaching of their eggs. Nowadays you are able to help protect the turtles in many ways including night walks as well as during the hatching of newborn turtles! Its intricate maze of waterways, canals, and lagoons make it an awesome place for kayaking and boating adventures!

Rincon de la Vieja

Known for its two unbelievably stunning volcanic peaks, Rincon de la Vieja National Park is located in Guanacaste. Its main attributes include an active volcano you can hike to, a waterfall, a very cool swimming hole and even a couple of delicious hot springs! Rincon de la Vieja is home to an abundance of flora and fauna including everything from toucans and monkeys to even cougars and jaguars!
