In Places to Visit

Have you ever imagined a tropical paradise so beautiful that pictures will never really do it justice? Well once you visit Corcovado National Park, you’ll understand what we are talking about!

Corcovado National Park has become one of the top eco-tourism destinations in Costa Rica and worldwide! Located in the Peninsula de Osa, Corcovado is the largest conservation park in the country. Stunningly, National Geographic even named it “the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity” – and that is something!

Established in 1975, Corcovado has definitely become the heart of Costa Rica’s national park system.

Amazingly enough, this national park is home to over 7000 species of insects, mammals, birls, amphibians, reptiles and fish. There are certain animals which you will see much more frequently than others. Some examples are sea turtles, monkeys, sloths, butterflies, frogs and anteaters. Corcovado is also home to all six of the feline species found in Costa Rica.

Given its luscious beauty, Corcovado is an ideal place for hiking and nature fanatics. It takes about 2-3 days to hike the entire national park and really get to see all of its wonders. There are 5 ranger stations through out the park, so a great way to plan your hikes is by using the stations as references or stops. Only three of the stations offer camping areas and potable water so it’s extremely important to plan ahead. Besides seeing some of the most wonderful animals, you will also enjoy many other incredible attractions. You can hike around the Corcovado Lake where you may even see tapirs, which are currently an endangered species. You may also hike all the way to ‘La catarata de la llorona’, a lovely 100ft waterfall where you can take a swim and get some chill time.

It is best to visit this exquisite national park in the dry season, as rainy season tends to flood the park and make some trails inaccessible. The recommended visiting months go from January to April.

So, if you are looking for the most intensely natural experience of a lifetime… visit Corcovado National Park! In case you’re searching for car rental in Puntarenas, get in touch with us at Solid Car Costa Rica for information on our rates and extras.
